how does one play for a semi pro football team?

my boyfriend played semi-pro for the shockers in washington but he has to quit to take care of his family. he grad 07. i know he wants to play football and he’s really really good. stuff just always comes up!! how would he be able to get on a team or have any chance of playing and going pro?? we go to clark community college in vancouver and there’s no fball team?? i really want him to play! ne help??

Did he play college ball anywhere? That is your typical route to the pros. The semi pro leagues in our area are a joke. I played at a small college (Western Washington), then I’ve been playing semi pro off and on for the last 8 years or so. The semi pro teams in our area would be mopped up by any college football team in my opinion. I play because I love the game and its a fun league, but its not the road to the NFL. The shockers were pretty solid though, so if he played with them he probably has the talent to play at a college somewhere. Sometimes playing semi pro can get him the experience and film to send to colleges. In your area, he would have a couple of teams in Oregon that he can play for in the NWFL. If I were you or him, I would check out every team within driving range and check out their coaching staff or ownership. Sometimes, the owners and/or coaches have good connections to get to the next level (college and maybe pro). For example, there used to be a coach for the Puget Sound Jets, then he went to the West Sound Saints I think, his name was Kenny Austin I think. And he used to be a pro recruiter so he has connections. The best connection ever in this league was when Sam Adams (former Seahawks DT) owned the Eastside Hawks before they went to Arena Football. If anyone joined his team and he really thought they had pro potential, he’s been known to actually bring people with him to NFL training camps to give them an opportunity. I don’t think he’s around this area anymore, but there might be someone doing something similar. Or, if you can find a good coach that really wants to help someone achieve the next level, a good coach will help put together film and such to send to colleges. We had a linebacker that played highschool, then played semi-pro for us, he developed a lot in our league and so the coach put film together and ended up getting a him a scholarship to Iowa I think. We had the same thing happen for one of our kickers.

So, to answer your question…I’d look to Oregon to play semipro ball in your area, but I think a college is going to be your best route for NFL aspirations. Or if you just want to get paid to play and you are that good, you can always tryout for the Canadian teams. They’re still way better than college athletes, but you can usually attend their open Combines and give it a shot.
